If any of the following apply to you, get HELP immediately: Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness or depression Overwhelming emotions Feeling alone and having no one to talk to Loss of control over your life Thoughts of killing yourself or hurting yourself Have made a plan or have the means available to kill or harm yourself Are employing unhealthy methods of coping with negative feelings (i.e. drugs, alcohol self harm etc.) Not sure who to talk to, call your local crisis line (found in the front of the phonebook or online) If you are about to seriously harm yourself, contact 911. Who you could talk to: Talk to someone you trust: Trusted adults School counselors Mature friends/peers Parents Family Doctor/public health nurse Guidance counselors Crisis line - can help you figure out who to talk to and how to say it. Don’t know what to say: Write a letter and give it to someone you can trust Write a list of everything you need to say, and take it with you How your friends or parents might react: Denial: that this is what you are going through, may not know what to say or how to react. Upset or sad: that you are having this problem Relieved: you are telling them Overwhelmed: may find it difficult to discuss |
